Eyes To See – Restoring Sight One Person at a Time

Aug 19, 2016

Although you have not seen a lot of activity publicly since the Ebunlomo Olagunju Foundation was launched on May 29th, 2016, we have been hard at work behind closed doors. An implementation committee was selected and weekly we have been meeting discussing and planning what would be our first project and when it would take place.

Our very first event was with the Eyes to See project. What an amazing thing to be part of and watch. The word got out that the Ebunlomo Olagunju Foundation through the Eyes to See project would be offering free eye exams, eye glasses and cataract surgery. We didn’t only see people from Igosun, Kwara State, Nigeria the current focus for our projects but people traveled from neighboring towns to get in line for help and assistance.

The lines were forming at 6am and quite long before we opened the doors at 8am at Igosun Basic Health Centre. We were excited and surprised to see the kind of turn out we had for people needing help with their sight. It was a confirmation that the correct project was selected to get Ebunlomo Olagunju Foundation activities going.

The Eyes to See project was organized to run all day August 18th and 19, 2016 to allow for the first day to be primarily focused on providing eye exams and eye glasses and the second day’s focus to be on cataract surgeries. To our amazement, the Tela-Vision Media team not only performed eye exams on the first day but they began the cataract surgeries and performed surgeries through the night and had all surgeries completed by day break on August 19th.

What a fantastic, dedicated team! We are so happy to report that at the end of the Eyes to See project 129 eye exams had been performed, 76 pairs of glasses distributed and 10 cataract surgeries completed. We were also able to provide post-surgery prescription drugs for free. The project was a great success. Can’t wait to update everyone on the next activity that takes place.
